Frida Kahlo Letter 1 (front)

Frida Kahlo Letter 1 (back)

The first letter from Frida Kahlo to Alberto Misrachi is in regard to the sale of a painting to Albert Bender, and his check payment being lost in the mail from (San Francisco, California to Mexico City). Albert Bender was an Irish art collector who migrated to San Francisco, and played a key role in the San Francisco art world in the 1930’s and 1940´s.

Alberto,
(Front) I went to see you at the office, but I didn’t find you – A letter arrived from Mr. Bender
from San P …?? California, and said the piece arrived and that he sent the money, and said the check
went to Insurgentes 432 last week – but no.

(Back) Letter has arrived. I asked at the post office and there was no letter. So, Diego
wants to ask you if you be so kind to send a telegram saying that the money has not
been received, and that it’s strange that the mail got lost, and to order the bank to stop
payment on the check.

Here I am sending you money for the telegram.

Thanks, Frida

Letter 2

The second letter from Frida Kahlo to Alberto Misrachi is in regards to a small loan Frida Kahlo was asking for. Alberto Misrachi was one of the most important art dealers in Mexico, and played a key role in promoting artists such as Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, José Clemente Orozco, Rufino Tamayo, Remedios Varo and many more.

January 30, 1940
Albertito,
(Front) Would you be so kind to lend me 50 more? That would make a debt of 300?
I am asking

(Back) you just because I was a little late with Lily’s illness.

Thank you very much.
Frida
