Frida and Diego: The Last Dream

Frida and Diego Return to the New York MoMA

This Spring, the Museum of Modern art in New York brings a renewed focus to two of the most iconic artists of the 20th century, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera; in an exhibition titled Frida and Diego, the last dream (on view from March 21 through September 21, 2026). The exhibition will feature a number of works by both artists from the private collection of the museum, and will coincide with the Metropolitan Opera’s premiere of El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego (May 14 through June 5, 2026).

Jon Bausor, the set and co-costume designer of the opera, will also design an elaborate setting for the exhibition at MoMA, merging theatre design with an exhibition for the artists. The Narrative of the opera begins three years after the death of Frida Kahlo, with an aging Diego Rivera attempting to summon the spirit of Frida during Day of the Dead.
